EC Davies

EC Davies, Dice Study 1, 2001, video still, ‘Memento’ postcard

EC Davies’ video works convey objects in a permanent state of flux, the sensation of energy reinforced by the use of vivid colour and dramatic lighting. They are hypnotic meditations that suggest a sense of something about to happen – an expectation that is ultimately frustrated as objects constantly return to their starting place, confined by the boundaries of the screen. A postgraduate of Northumbria University, she was a recipient of a Student Film and Video Award for her work in the 2001 ‘Beck's Futures’ exhibition (ICA, London, touring to Fruitmarket, Edinburgh, Bluecoat, Liverpool, Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle upon Tyne and Sothebys, New York) and has exhibited widely in the UK as well as in Italy, Spain and Switzerland. For ‘Memento’, she has produced a digital version of one of her video works, Trace.
