Simon Jones works within selected environments, developing presentations that operate as arenas, spaces or objects that offer the audience the opportunity to engage on different emotional, intellectual and physical levels. His work creates beauty from the mundane – common weeds are replanted to form an oasis, chip forks are cast in solid silver and a puddle is equipped with its own fairylight illuminations. A postgraduate of Northumbria University, projects in 2002 included several for Tyne and Wear Metro operator Nexus, the group exhibition ‘We interrupt this programme...’, Changing Room, Stirling, and ‘Living Proof’, an international multi-media event in an inhabited Newcastle city centre tower block. For ‘Memento’, he produced a pair of solid gold segs (shoe reinforcement plates), given away via a prize draw at the Memento Launch Event.
