Tanya Axford, Forming attachments (detail), Forming attachments (detail), 2001, plastic clothes pegs and hanging baskets, ‘Memento’ postcard

Tanya Axford’s work explores the incongruous convergence between man-made and natural forms. Painstakingly manipulated vast accumulations of domestic, mass-produced materials evolve into luxurious landscapes that respond to and inhabit the surrounding space. A graduate of the University of Newcastle and North East winner of the Prospects 2001 Prize, in 2002 she was a recipient of a Northern Arts Encore 10x10 award and undertook a residency at Kielder Forest, Northumberland. For ‘Memento’, she produced a limited edition matchbox.
